Arvind Kejriwal Opposes NEET 2016 Ordinance

NEET 2016 drama continues. Can politicos just take a step back and think in favour of future medicos once and for all? Students and parents in India rejoiced on 20th May 2016 when an ordinance was passed postponing NEET 2016 by 12 months, due to the health minister JP Nadda’s righteous persistence. However, he will still have a discussion will President Pranab Mukherjee today, dated 23th May 2016. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal opposes this ordinance altogether very strongly.

Arvind Kejriwal Opposes NEET 2016 Ordinance

The Supreme Court of India in the Writ Petition (C) No(s).261/2016 on 6th MAY 2016 declared that “no examination shall be permitted to be held for admission to MBBS or BDS studies by any private college or association or any private/deemed university”. This lead to the cancellation of all private and state led medical entrance examinations like MHT CET 2016 which was already conducted, being scrapped. MHT CET 2016 was held on 5th May 2016 by the Government of Maharashtra, State Common Entrance Cell. Since NEET Phase 1 was conducted on 1st May 2016, medical aspirants then rushed to apply for NEET Phase 2 2016 which will take place as scheduled on 24th July 20016.

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, is adamant that NEET be the only valid medical entrance examination in India from this year itself and that the 20th May 2016 ordinance should not receive the acceptance of the Indian President. The Delhi government has already decided to stick with the Indian Apex Court’s declaration on all medical state entrance exam cancellation. The Delhi government will process medical admissions only on the basis of NEET 2016.

With Arvind Kejriwal’s adamant views opposing the ordinance, will there be a change for the nth time for medical aspirants this year? Only time will tell or should I say, only Pranab Mukherjee can tell?

Fingers crossed!
