NEET 2016 Counselling to start from August 22

As per the notice released by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), NEET 2016 Counselling will be held in two rounds. The counselling has begun from August 22. The counselling will be conducted in online mode. Only NEET qualified (as declared by CBSE) candidates can take part in AIPMT/NEET Counselling.

As per the revision to the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 2015, counselling for both all India and state quota seats will be held in two rounds so that the academic session can start from August 1 of the academic year. Earlier, counselling was conducted in 3 rounds.

NEET 2016 Counselling Procedure

NEET Counselling process comprise of registration, choice filling for indicative seats, locking the choices, result announcement and transfer of unclaimed /vacant seats to State Quota etc. Candidates should take note of these steps properly and follow it.

NEET 2016 Counselling Dates and Schedule

Counselling Schedule for NEET 2016 has been released by MCC. The schedule of AIPMT/NEET is mentioned in the below table:

About Counselling for 15% All India Quotas (AIQ)

NEET 2016 Counselling will be conducted for allotment of 15% All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats in all government medical and dental colleges of India by MCC. As per the directions of Honourable Supreme court in this matter MCC does counselling for only the 15 % AI Quota seats in Government medical colleges of the country except Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir.  Seats for MBBS and BDS will be allotted strictly on the basis candidate’s rank in NEET and their choice for medical and dental colleges. Counselling will be held for about 3500 MBBS and BDS seats.

NEET Counselling for Participating States and Medical Colleges

NEET 2016 counselling for the remaining 85% State Seats and Private Medical and dental seats, Candidates are requested to contact Respective State DME (Director Medical Education) of the State.

Allocation of MBBS and BDS Seats in AFMC, Delhi University, BHU and Jamia Hamrad will be done by medical colleges as per the NEET 2016 Meri List. 

Step by Step NEET2016 Counselling Procedure

As mentioned above, this year the counselling will be held in two rounds only. In order to participate in the process, one needs to register themselves for the counselling. The NEET 2016 Counselling Procedure listed below is as per the information brochure released by the counselling authority MCC. Follow the instructions carefully.

  • Reporting at the allotted Medical/Dental College against 1st Round

*Important Note: Candidates cannot register after last registration date.

NEET 2016 Counselling: Rank Range

The counselling for NEET will be done only for those candidates who have been allotted rank under All India quota categories. CBSE has created a rank range of the successful candidates depending on the marks secured by them in the medical entrance examination. 

CBSE, on August 16 has also released the ranks of the candidates who are eligible for the counselling.The rank list includes a range of scorers from the highest to lowest within a category. The below table presents the rank range of candidates under different categories eligible to participate in NEET 2016 counselling.

Required Documents at the Time of Admission

Since it is an online counselling, no documents will be required for participating in online allotment process. However, candidates need to produce a set of documents at the time of admission. Here is the list:

Important Documents:

Original documents (along with attested photocopies of documents) for admission to under-graduate medical courses for admission to 15% of total seats on all-India basis required at the time of joining in allotted Medical / Dental College are as mentioned below.

  • NEET 2016 Admit Cards 
  • NEET 2016 Result/ Rank letter 
  • Date of Birth Certificate (if Metric certificate does not bear the same)
  • Class 10th Certificate
  • Class 10+2 Certificate
  • Class 10+2 Marks Sheet
  • Eight (8) Passport size photograph same as affixed on the application form
  • Provisional allotment letter generated on-line
  • Proof of identity
  • The Candidate should also bring the following certificate, if applicable:
  • SC/ST Certificate issued by the competent authority (in the standard format as specified in the prospectus/information bulletin) and it should be in English or Hindi in language. Sub caste should be clearly mentioned in the certificate. Some of the States insist for English version of Caste Certificate. In case the certificate is in regional language the candidate should carry a Attested translated copy of the certificate in English/ Hindi.
  • OBC certificate issued by the competent authority. The sub-caste should tally with the Central List of OBC. The OBC candidates should not belong to Creamy Layer to claim OBC reservation benefit. The OBC certificate must be in the standard format as mentioned in the prospectus/ Information Bulletin.
  • Orthopedic Physical Disability Certificate issued from a duly constituted and authorized Medical Boards. No other PH certificate, issued by any other Authorities/Hospital will be entertained. (Candidates are advised to see college information, of allotted college for, any other document which may be required by the allotted college).
*Note: Candidates without original certificates/documents shall not be allowed to take admission in allotted Medical/ Dental College.

Candidates who have deposited their original documents with any other Institute/ College/University and come for admission with a certificate stating that “their original certificates are deposited with the Institute / College / University” will not be allowed to take admission in allotted Medical/Dental College.
