Complete NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria – Am I Eligible?

Knowing the NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria before filling the application form is important. It tells you whether or not you are eligible for this exam. Only those candidates are allowed to appear in the medical entrance exam who fulfills the eligibility criteria of NEET 2017.

With NEET round the corner, students might want to check whether they stand eligible to appear for the exam. CBSE has released the list the minimum requirements in order to appear for the exam. Check below the detailed criteria.

Nationality: Indian & Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)

  • Only candidates who are the citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India are eligible for NEET 2017
  • OCI are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges of India only if they adhere to the rules and regulations laid by the respective State Governments and the Government of India

Age Limit

  • Age: Candidates must be at least 17 years old as on or before December 31 of the year of entrance examination
  • Age limit for unreserved category: For candidates seeking admission under 15% All India Quota Seats, the upper age limit is 25 years as on December 31 of the year of entrance examination
  • Age limit for reserved category: For candidates seeking admission under SC/ST/OBC category in NEET 2017, the upper age limit is 30 years old. The reserved category has a relaxation of 5 years.

NEET 2017 aspirants must be born on or between:

  • General Category : Must born in between January 01, 1992 and January 01, 2000
  • SC/ST/OBC Category: Must be born in between January 01, 1987 and January 01, 2000

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Below is the least qualifying marks a candidates need to score in 10+2 to be eligible for NEET 2017.

Minimum marks required in 12th Category Explanation
50% General Must have passed PCB (Biology/Bio-technology) & English individually and must have secured combined 50% marks.
40% OBC/SC/ST Must have obtained 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together
45% Gen- (PH) Must have obtained at least 45% marks for General Physically Handicapped category
40% SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH 40% marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs

General NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria

  • Marks obtained in Mathematics will not be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS courses
  • Candidates appearing for qualifying examination can also apply for NEET. However, they may have to show the passing certificates fulfilling the percentage criteria at the time of first round of NEET 2017 Counselling

NEET 2017 Eligibility Criteria for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K

  • Students from these states are NOT ELIGIBLE for 15% All India Quota Seats as these states have opted out of All India Scheme. In case, if these states claim eligible, they need to produce/submit online self-declaration which will be kept with the exam conducting authority of records
  • The online self-declaration will be verified at the time of counselling. If found misleading, the candidature of such candidates shall be cancel and may also lead to criminal proceedings against the candidate
  • Candidates from these states are only eligible for the admission to the AFMC, Pune subject to the fulfilment of eligibility criteria
